Word Work: Our class will be learning the -r controlled e, i, and u syllable pattern this week. Our syllable pattern will show up in words like smart, shark, start, and market.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Ice Skating: Thank you to those parents who were able to help our students put on and take off ice skates.  We had a wonderful time.

Assemblies: We will be in the gym as a whole school on Wednesday to watch the Nutcracker from 10:00-11:00. On Friday, we are going to the high school with Brown and E.P. Clarke for the holiday concert from 9-11:00

Holiday Party? I am sure you are wondering if we are doing a holiday party. The answer is kind of. We will be doing something very low key in the afternoon after our lunch that will include, a ice cream treat provided by Bradley's Mom, Nicole, on paper products provided by Kade's Mom Jill. Afterward the kids will gather in teams to solve some holiday centered breakout boxes. Thank you for your offers to provide materials or help but we will be all set.

Dress Up Days Next Week:

Monday: Wear white Snowman Day

Tuesday: Wear Rudolph Red Day

Wednesday: Wear Grinch Green Day

Thursday: Ugly Sweater Day

Friday: Elf Day

Vacation Reading: Please help your child maintain his/her reading stamina by continuing to read 15 - 20 minute nightly during our vacation from school.  Many students are reading much more than the required 15 minutes and learning to make reading a natural part of their day.  We appreciate your support.

Core 5, IXL, Moby Max, RAZ, and Spelling City are available during winter break to maintain your child’s skill level.  A few minutes of practice periodically throughout our vacation can help your child feel confident when he/she returns to school in January.

Math Game:  This week we will send home the game Target Number.  Students will need their number cards again.  Players start at the number 100.  They choose a card and decide if that number will be a 1 or a 10.  For example, if they are at 100 and choose an 8, they will want to make that number 80.  The first one to zero wins.
