Weekly Update
Week of January 17, 2022
Word Work: Our class will be learning about the /oi/ syllable pattern this week. Our syllable pattern makes the sound as in coy, toil, and turmoil. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.
Math Fact Mastery: In 2nd grade we divide out our math facts into chunks that follow the order of addition facts to 10, subtraction facts to 10, addition facts 10-20, and subtraction facts 10-20. At this time of year, your child should be at or above working on fluently adding facts 10-20. Students have been practicing the facts in class individually and through games. If he/she is not at this point, please make sure to practice facts nightly. Your child has flashcards that are carried back and forth between school and home nightly in the Take Home Folder. Let me know if you have any questions.
Nightly Reading: Students' nightly reading routine should be spent reading at least 20 minutes. Ideally, it would be beneficial for students to read to an adult for half of the time. Students may read on RAZ, EPIC, and BookFlix as an alternative for reading books and magazines each night. Thank you for your support.
