Weekly Update

Week of March 28, 2022


Thank you so much for reading my blog. It was fantastic on Friday to have so many students tell me about my snack vs. clear drink error. The combination of them knowing my error along with their kindness in telling me brought me joy and them beads in the jar.

  No School. Spring Break Starts


Preparing For Spring Break: Thank you so much for returning the yellow notes indicating your child's school plans around spring break. If you have not let me know yet, please let me know.


Word Work: Our class will learn contractions such as we'll, didn’t, she’s, and you’ve this week and the week following spring break. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 19 practice list for the week. 


Math News:  Our second graders will start our geometry unit this week.  They will be learning about 2-dimensional shapes and identifying their attributes such as number of sides, length of sides, number of angles, and whether they have right angles or parallel sides.  We will also study 3-dimensional shapes.  Students will identify shapes, faces, bases, and vertices. You can help your child by pointing to everyday objects and ask your child to identify the shapes he/she sees and describe their attributes.  Example: A shoe box is a rectangular prism with rectangular sides that are parallel. It has right angles.


Keep on Reading:  Our second graders have done a wonderful job demonstrating their love for reading during March is Reading Month.  Please encourage your child to continue reading nightly during our vacation.  A few minutes of math fact practice would be very beneficial as well.  Thank you so much!


Music Performance:   Music performances are back!  Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 4th.  This is the day our 2nd graders will perform their show.  The performance will take place at the high school.  All 3 buildings will be hosting their show that night so a time is yet to be determined.  Please stay tuned for more information as I receive it.

                                  The class filled the bead jar.  They voted for an Everything Goes Day with an electronic toy day, pajama day, something soft day, time for a read in, and safe candy allowed (no tree nuts, no peanuts, and no eggs).   If this impending weather causes a snow day we will do this next Friday.  It will not be moved to Tuesday due to that being our Twosday celebration.  Please email me if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Word Work: Our class will be learning to form plurals by adding -s, -es, or -ies to words such as rocks, wishes, boxes, and puppies this week. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 20 practice list for the week.   Music Performance:   The students have begun practicing together on stage.
